Fox hunting: more than just a tradition.

Venery, an ancient form of stag hunting, unites riders, hounds, and game. Practiced since the Middle Ages, it requires discipline and respect for tradition. The huntsmen, dressed in traditional attire, use hunting horns to coordinate the packs of hounds. The aim is to pursue the game, often a stag, with equestrian elegance and canine coordination. This hunt is conducted without firearms. Its centuries-old heritage persists in Compiègne, celebrating the alliance of man, horse, and hound in the pursuit of game.

Deer or saint?

Saint Hubert, the patron saint of hunters, embodies the fusion of faith and a passion for nature. His legend dates back to the 7th century, when, during a hunt, he had a sacred vision of a cross between a stag's antlers. Converted by this experience, he renounced hunting to dedicate himself to God. His symbol, the cross between the antlers, has become emblematic for Catholic hunters. November 3rd, his feast day, brings together the hunting community in homage to this saint, a symbol of faith, protection, and respect for nature.

A castle on the horizon, but which one?

The Château de Pierrefonds, located in the town of the same name in France, is a splendid medieval fortress restored in the 19th century by the architect Viollet-le-Duc. An imposing silhouette rising in the heart of the Compiègne Forest, this majestic structure embodies the Flamboyant Gothic style. Built in the 14th century by Louis d'Orléans, the château was transformed into a royal residence under Napoleon III.
