A very English spirit:
Miniature paper theatre, or toy theatre, is a popular art form dating back to the 18th century and reaching its peak during Victorian London. These small theatres were often handmade from cut and folded paper, creating elaborate miniature scenes with detailed characters, scenery, and props. The tradition of paper theatre in London flourished thanks to artists such as Benjamin Pollock.
It is this English tradition that Helen Bourch perpetuates by tackling Lewis Carroll 's famous novel "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking-Glass".
And so, the curtain rises, plunging us into the enchanting world of Alice in Wonderland, a universe born from the prolific imagination of its author. Alice, the intrepid heroine, begins her journey by following a hurried White Rabbit, setting off an adventure where every character becomes an enigma. Encountering the Cheshire Cat, with its enigmatic grin, and the Mad Hatter and the March Hare, with their bewildering speech, Alice navigates through absurd places. The Queen of Hearts, obsessed with red roses, awaits her in her castle with its extraordinary garden, while Tweedledum and Tweedledee constantly escape. Each of these strange characters weaves an unforgettable tapestry, evoking the timeless charm of this fantastical tale that has captivated generations of readers.
